AMS VP Willner Meeting in the Office of the Health Administrator for Senator Rand Paul

The ‘Affordable Care Act’ is apparently not that affordable for companies trying to earn a living by innovating and designing the newest American life-saving products of tomorrow.  And so goes “1,000 jobs at Stryker Corporation“…

The $20B tax was included in the Affordable Care Act that was signed into law in March, 2010. The amount is based on a 2.3% excise tax that will be levied on the total revenues of any medical device/healthcare corporation, regardless of whether that company generates a profit; it begins in 2013.

Many companies will owe more in taxes than they generate from their business transactions, and this means that they must start cutting back now.  This means curtailing research and development, and trimming jobs.  And this says nothing for the future of patient care in America under a more socialized medical system. What enterprise will step up to produce the technological breakthroughs which U.S. companies have created for generations?… and what nation’s people will continue to drive worldwide advances in medicine? If not the U.S.A., then who…..?

Congressman Erik Paulsen’s legislation to repeal the 2.3% medical device tax gains supporters and momentum in the House of Representatives. Today, at least 218 representatives have expressed their support as co-sponsors of the bill to do away with the medical device tax.

Two AMS Board members, Drs. Willner and Kimber, Know that Despite the Overwhelming Challenges Facing the American Healthcare System, Practicing Medicine Should Still be Fun!
